ENTROPIC COSMOS II — LA PULAKA
The works enter into a dialogues with the ceiling installation Entropic Cosmos I. The series of prints is based on renderings of the crop pulaka (Cyrtosperma merkusii), which is primarily grown on the island nation of Tuvalu in the Pacific Ocean. Tuvalu is the world’s first sovereign nation facing the risk of submersion due to global-warming-related flooding.
Pulaka is cultivated in pits that are maintained by families over generations. Its ownership and cultivation are central to family identity, as well as serving as an important carbohydrate-rich food source. The cultivation of pulaka is threatened by rising sea levels caused by global warming, as the plant does not thrive in saltwater that seeps into the pits.
